Kelly Lee Owens' self-titled album debuted in early 2017. The Wales-born, London-based singer has produced a collection of songs that blend technology with the human condition in a fluid and romantic way.
Her subtle intertwining of emotive yet simple lyrics – fueled by organic, repetitive, electronic beats – culminate in a sound that is uniquely her own, as seen above at FYF in Los Angeles this past July. Still, we recognise how her work is wonderfully reminiscent of artists who struck a similar balance – Arthur Russell or Glasser, and touches upon legends of electronic sound such as Orbital and Underworld.
We at Dirty Soup are loving Kelly Lee Owens. It is not often enough that we come across a musician who reminds us of the graceful ambient techno we grew up with and love, while maintaining a uniquely current sound and strong female perspective. We hope you enjoy her debut as much as we have. Take a look at one of our favourite music videos of 2017, "Throwing Lines".
