Finn Ronsdorf – Blue
Deeply soulful and packed with emotion, Finn Ronsdorf's, Blue, is a mesmerising listen. Ronsdorf’s voice crackles with tension and gut wrenching distress as he hammers out the lyrics, while the minimal backing track builds up to a crescendo of pounding piano and thumping bass drum. The stripped back video is directed by Matt Lambert. Lambert explains, “Finn and I been collaborating for some time now, so it was very organic and easy for us to do a shoot like this which was quite spontaneous. For myself as a filmmaker, it's really refreshing to make something so pure and minimal. I was also really after a sense of one-on-one connection without anyone else in the world in sight or mind.”
Hearts Hearts – Some Oceans Away
Cheerful, catchy and cool, Some Oceans Away is a satisfying single from Austrian band Hearts Hearts. With two albums already under their belt, but two years since the last, it was high-time we heard from the four-piece. We’re delighted to have something new to add to our heavy rotation, with summery vibes helping to keep our spirits high – just don’t dwell too long on the downhearted lyrics about the death of intimacy.
Quelle Chris & Chris Keys – Sacred Safe
Quelle Chris’ new track, Sacred Safe, is bursting at the seams with guest spots from Homeboy Sandman, Cavalier and Merrill Garbus of the Tune-Yards, but rather than feel congested or confused, the whole thing gels beautifully into a satisfying audio patchwork quilt. Elegant piano sounds meet a fast-moving, groovy bass line head-on, with every artist providing something unique yet complementary to the whole.
Fiona Apple - I Want You To Love Me
Fiona Apple stormed back onto our stereos in April with her Pitchfork-rated perfect ten of a record, 'Fetch The Bolt Cutters', and it has already amassed over 25 million streams on Spotify alone. I Want You To Love Me kicks off the album and sets the tone perfectly. It’s jagged, spiky and full of wit, with a character that belongs entirely to her. Apple used all sorts to make the sounds you hear on the record, including walloping bits of her own house and stomping around on the floor. Incomparable.
The Streets + Tame Impala - Call My Phone Thinking I'm Doing Nothing Better
New music from The Streets will never not be an event. This time Mike Skinner is back with a collaboration alongside Tame Impala, just one of a series of buddy-ups that will feature on the forthcoming album 'None Of Us Are Getting Out Of This Life Alive'. There’s a social distancing-inspired video that comes along with the song, which is very ‘of the moment’.
Laura Marling – Song for Our Daughter
Marling is back with a majestic, thoughtful, engrossing and heartfelt album. The title track, Song For Our Daughter, from her seventh LP stands out as the juiciest tidbit on a ten-track sonic smorgasbord, a concept album that explores modern femininity to marvellous effect. Originally slated for an August release, Marling brought the launch forward in response to the current coronavirus pandemic.
Jonathan Bree – In The Sunshine
The mask-wearing maestro himself, Jonathan Bree, is back with a deeply sensuous track for your delight and delectation. In The Sunshine is a truly remarkable listening experience; unhurried, uncluttered and unencumbered. It’s perhaps even a little bit more hopeful than what we’ve heard from him before.
Childish Gambino – 12:38
The multitalented, multifarious Childish Gambino’s latest track has been described as a 'sensual, minimalistic bounce’, which is certainly one way to describe this story of a magic mushroom trip. Click on the play button to view the video, that is not a video, but is THE video, if you catch our drift!
Desire – Escape
A joyful slug of Italo-synth genius, Escape, the title track from Desire’s new album, is an absolutely phenomenal piece of pop music that’ll send shivers down your spine like a good shot of grappa. Crank it up loud and let it overtake you – we’re going out on a saccharine high this month.
