Derweze, also known as the door to hell, is a 70 meter wide hole in the middle of the Karakum desert in Turkmenistan. The hole was formed in 1971 when a team of soviet geologists had their drilling rig collapse when they hit a cavern filled with natural gas. In an attempt to avoid poisonous discharge, they decided to burn it off, thinking that the gas would be depleted in only a few days. Derweze is still burning today
A computer simulation of what happens when two spiral galaxies collide. At various points, the simulation stops to show a comparison to pictures of actual galaxy pairs in the midst of this process, as seen from the Hubble telescope. In a few billion years, the Milky Way might undergo this process, merging with our largest neighbor, the Andromeda Galaxy.

We went and saw a sneak preview of this on Friday (thanks Sunday Best!) and it set me up really well for the weekend. Like every party you went to when you were 17, except, you know, more, because it’s Lynch.
Crazy Clown Time is out now and it’s actually really good, which I didn’t neccessarily think it would be. But it is. Best summation so far ‘This is like Slint….and you know how much I love Slint.’
